About Me

Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time to stop by my blog and read about my classroom, students, and life in education! My name is Holly Hodges, and I am currently a kindergarten teacher. I have a passion for critical thinking, asking and expecting my students to do things that many people may not think they're able to do. One of my goals as an educator is to raise the bar high for academic and behavior expectations and give children the tools they need to reach or exceed those expectations. Our students strive when we have high expectations for their achievement!

My journey in the blogging world has allowed me to get to know many other teachers. Through our interactions, I have learned that the majority of teachers are interested in highly-engaging, low-prep activities that leave a long-lasting impact on their students. One reason I started Research and Play was to share ways that you can engage the littlest of learners in ways that respect the importance of play in education while also raising the bar academically. By sharing ways that teachers can plan activities and set up environments that can reach the whole child, children can benefit and grow tremendously in their academic knowledge and social skills. You will have access to many hands-on activities and materials that will give your students the opportunity to grow.

I look forward to many opportunities to collaborate, share, and learn from one another. Please visit often!

  1. Hi well done! I have been teaching young children for 35 years and the Pre school environment has always called me.
The Reggio Approach is a beautiful way to support the importance of the learning environment. Many years ago I attended a presentation from some of the influences of the movement. It inspired me to continue my love to create a lovely organized space for the children. Calling out the research on the importance of play and a beautiful setting is critical and you did both !
I am opening my own child care center this year and it will be a playful experience utilizing the practice and philosophy of Reggio Emilia approach ! Keep up the great work Cheryl Tella
